PLYMOUTH, WI (WHBL) - Plymouth may have had their holiday celebrations last weekend, but the businesses in their downtown are hoping people come to shop the next few days as they host their “Charming Downtown Plymouth Christmas” events.
Business Manager Randy Schwoerer tells WHBL News there will be plenty of activities for people to do other than shop at the 13 participating businesses. “We’ve really gone out this year to put a special effort into celebrating Christmas and making people share the owner and operating business platform that we live and believe in here in Plymouth.”
Events taking place Friday from 4 to 9 p.m. include Santa’s Reindeer in front of the Plymouth Arts Center with food to feed them, the ability to build a charm necklace by visiting participating businesses, art work from third graders in the Plymouth School District on display, plus a free gift bag and children’s stockings.
On Saturday from 10 to 3 there will be the ability to build a recipe book by visiting participating businesses, plus a Christmas Cookie contest. Schwoerer adds there will also be a green and gold feel at one business. “We’re excited to have legendary Green Bay Packer Chester Marcol coming to town, and he’s going to be at Book Heads bookstore autographing his book, and also Allen Nohl, Vietnam veteran, who’s a sole survivor from a helicopter crash in Vietnam.”
Schwoerer says the entire event is to get people to shop local, claiming that action has a big impact in the community people live in. “If you spend a dollar online, zero-percent comes back to the community. If you go to a big box store or a chain store 43-cents comes back to the community. And if you shop local, 68-cents come back to the community. And those small businesses are the people who support schools, non-profits, and make everything happen in a community.”
