WASHINGTON D.C. (WHBL) - Changes are starting to happen in the U.S. House now that Wisconsin Congressman Paul Ryan has gotten more than a week as Speaker in.
Area congressman Glenn Grothman says they are already being noticed by him. He tells WHBL News the biggest change will be how bills are discussed in the chamber.
Grothman described bills under the John Boehner speakership were mostly the result of a deal worked out by the former Ohio congressman with little outside input, then presented to the G-O-P caucus with little to no opportunity to request amendments before its vote.
One of the first bills passed under Ryan’s leadership showed how this process has changed. "We had a transportation budget that we voted on this week. He gave everyone a chance to introduce amendments on that budget. I suppose you could say things are a lot more open."
Grothman says he expects that to continue as the rest of the details for a recent budget deal are finalized by Congress over the coming weeks.
