SHEBOYGAN FALLS, WI (WHBL) - Dozens of area businesses were recognized Thursday for employing people who have mental and/or physical disabilities.  RCS of Sheboygan held their 14th annual employer recognition luncheon at The Bull at Pinehurst Farms.

Lynn Justinger with RCS says they also invited companies that currently don’t partner with them to learn more about how they could find workers for their business.  “We have some information on the tables that we’re asking employers to fill out, so we can do some outreach after the event is over and follow up, and explain a little bit more about how it makes good business sense to hire individuals with disabilities.”

That sentiment was echoed by Department of Workforce Development Deputy Secretary Georgia Maxwell.  “People with disabilities have a very high retention record and positive record for employers to be some of the best employees that they have.”

That too was shared by Mickey Gumtow, a local Pick N’ Save store manager, which received this year’s Exemplary Employer Awards.  “They want to be the best and they really strive to be better than everybody else, but they’re very humble people.”

The honors given to businesses were for businesses who have either started hiring people who are clients with RCS and have continued to employ them.
