ShEBOYGAN, Wis.(WHBL) - Schools were closed and traffic nearly at a standstill throughout Sheboygan County this morning. It started snowing about six last night and never let up as the area was blanketed by up to a foot of snow. Things are slowly improving as the day goes on, but many secondary streets and highways remain impassable. Lt. Mark Rupnik of the Sheriff’s Department said there were several vehicles stuck or abandoned on County LS north of Sheboygan. He said as of 10:30 this morning that there was heavy drifting occurring on secondary east-west roadways. He said travel is not recommended on County LS. Rupnik said state roads and the Interstate have all lanes opend. He said by mid-morning they had gotten to all but about a dozen stranded vehicles. Main highways and the Interstate were plowed but very slippery. In the city of Sheboygan, Public Works Director Dave Biebel says main streets are cleared but very slippery. He said the snow is so heavy that some of the snowplows had gotten stuck. Biebel said they will stay at it throughout the day and into tonight. The city of Sheboygan is under a snow emergency…no parking on emergency routes, boulevards, dead end streets, and cul de sacs. The town of Sheboygan is also under a snow emergency until noon tomorrow.
