FOND DU LAC, WI (WHBL) - A recent incident on Lake Winnebago is being used as a reminder for boaters to head to shore if a storm comes in.
Four people last Friday were caught out on the lake when a storm kicked up high waves and flooded their boat. Three had life preservers and were able to swim back to shore, but the fourth did not and the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department need to be called to rescue the person.
Tuffy Munson of Tuffy’s Outpost in Fond du Lac says he’s gotten caught out on Lake Winnebago during storms a couple of times, and he’s lucky his boat wasn’t swamped. The outdoor sporting goods store owner says let this incident be a reminder to never toughen out Mother Nature if you don’t think you can.
