FOND DU LAC, WI (WHBL/KFIZ) - The body of 70-year-old Charles “Chuck” Westby was recovered in about 22 feet of water in Lake Deneveu Sunday afternoon.
Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Captain Rick Olig says the Department of Natural Resources aided in their efforts by bringing in a truck equipped with underwater sonar and camera equipment. Westby's body was found shortly before 4 p.m.
Westby was with friends Saturday night swimming near some boats when he went under the water and did not resurface. The Sheriff's Dive Team was brought in and searched until midnight Saturday night suspending the search at that time. Olig says divers resumed their search about 6 a.m. Sunday.
Eden first responders and Fond du Lac paramedics also responded Saturday night. Olig says Town of Fond du Lac Fire Department aided divers Sunday by refilling their oxygen tanks.
Westby was an American Family Insurance agent in Fond du Lac.
