SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) - For more than 30 years, National Night Out has been a chance for local communities and law enforcement agencies that serve them to come together to promote safer and better neighborhoods.
Once again, the Sheboygan Countywide Crime Stoppers will host its annual observance Tuesday evening starting at 5 p.m.
Penny Weber tells WHBL News there is a change of location from years past. Instead of Fountain Park, activities will be held at Veterans Memorial Park on Union Avenue. "We think the additional space that it will give us will really lend itself to having everything there and very visible."
Activities include live music, food trucks, refreshments, face painting, a tour of law enforcement vehicles and fire equipment, and speeches from local dignitaries.
Also in attendance will be local groups with booths to pass along information. "We will have exhibitors, and the theme is safety," says Weber. "So we are looking at people that can help the community understand those resources that are out there for us."
The main attraction for the event is the two-mile "Walk Against Crime." The walk gets underway at 6:30 p.m. and will have a law enforcement escort. "They are going to pace us with their lights going," says Weber. "We will carry banners for National Night Out, and we want to visually tell the community ‘look, we’re all together in this, and together we can make this happen.’"
Whether you will be at the event or not, everyone is encouraged to leave a front porch light on this evening in solidarity for National Night Out.
