SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) - It’s not just Brat Days that’s bringing people to Sheboygan this weekend.  The 21st annual local Gus Macker Tournament is being held at Deland Park this Saturday and Sunday.

Volunteer Tom Leibham tells WHBL News the lack of hotel rooms due to the upcoming PGA golf tournament isn’t impacting the number of three-person teams planning to participate.  "We have 325 teams coming down this year.  We’ve been in that 325-375 range for the past five to six years."

Teams from the young to the young at heart will be playing rain or shine on 26 outdoor courts, including the special Dream Court.  "Kids get to play, and then there’s a play-by-play announcer and a scorekeeper and everything, and there’s a special surface that they play on," says Leibham.

The main attraction is the tournament, but Leibham says there are a few special events.  "Free throw contest and a 3-point contest, and then Sunday at noon we’ll have a slam dunk contest; so that’s always a fan favorite.  You get some good dunks out there, and some local guys usually enter that and bring a good cheering crowd with them."

Watching the games and events is free, but it will be encourage to spend some money in some way as funds raised will go towards the Boys and Girls Club of Sheboygan, their biggest fundraiser of the year.

If you are attending to play or watch, Sheboygan Police remind you that Pennsylvania Avenue is closed for water main work between North 5th and 7th streets.  Please find an alternate route to get to Deland Park.
