SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) - A Sheboygan man is serving four years in state prison for providing the heroin that caused the death of a person back in February of 2014.
Judge Terence Bourke sentenced Joseph Deckert last week to the prison time, plus four years extended supervision. The 28 year old was found guilty earlier this month of two counts of manufacturing/delivering heroin after he pleaded no contest.
In a story reported by WHBL last year, Deckert was one of two people charged for the death of 49 year old Thomas Butzen. Butzen had injected heroin he got from 35 year old William Hook, who had purchased the heroin from Deckert, in an effort to cheer Butzen up from his depression.
Butzen took the illegal drug, and became unconscious. He would later die at Sheboygan Memorial Hospital.
Hook was sentenced last November to five years in state prison and five years extended supervision after he pled guilty to a first degree reckless homicide/causing death felony.
