SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) - The City of Sheboygan has lost another alderperson. David Van Akkeren submitted his resignation to the City of Sheboygan Tuesday, saying he cannot continue to represent the city’s second district due to time and scheduling conflicts.
Van Akkeren is the third member of the Common Council to resign this year. Kevin Matichek stepped down in February after he was charged with sexual assault of a minor, and Eldon Burg resigned in June due to medical reasons.
Mayor Mike Vandersteen tells WHBL News they are grateful for Van Akkeren’s time on the council and wish him well for the future.
His replacement will be selected at the council’s August 3rd meeting, and anyone who is interested and lives in this district on the city’s northwest side must submit a letter of interest and a brief resume to City Clerk Sue Richards prior to the meeting.
