SHEBOYGAN COUNTY, WI (WHBL) - Sheboygan County and many city, village and town governments have ordinances in place that restrict who can purchase fireworks and what fireworks can be used.

Bob Kroeplien, fire chief with the Town of Sheboygan Falls, says his fellow chiefs have been working with local government heads to ban all fireworks in the county because of the possible danger.  "I’m sure somewhere, someplace, somebody’s going to get hurt and something’s going to burn.  It’s just inevitable.  So we’re just trying to protect people from themselves basically."

In response, many local governments restrict fireworks to ones that don’t fly up into the air.  Some governments, like the City of Sheboygan, has banned all fireworks all together.

If you are able to get permission to fire off fireworks, Kroeplien says to make sure to take all steps possible to limit damage to life and property.  "Stay away from crowds.  Make sure you’ve got a good foundation to launch this stuff from in a safe area, and then hopefully not anywhere around buildings."

Kroeplien says the best advice is to let the professional provide the firework entertainment.
