ELKHART LAKE, WI (WHBL) - A taser was needed in the arrest of an Elkhart Lake man following a domestic abuse incident Monday. Sheboygan County prosecutors charged 41 year old Anthony Ward Tuesday with disorderly conduct and resisting an officer.
According to the criminal complaint, law enforcement responded to a call at a home on East Rhine Street in the Village of Elkhart Lake for a physical domestic disturbance.
When police officer Renee Bramstedt arrived, she tried to detain Ward outside the home so she could investigate. However, he refused and went back inside and locked her out.
Sheriff Sergeant Bradley Jorsch soon joined at the scene, and a decision was made to force their way into the home. Ward allegedly tried to stop officers, but he would be tased when he tried to get away. Ward would be taken into custody, and law enforcement accuses him of continuing to resist the arrest physically and then verbally.
An investigation accuses Ward of being drunk and verbally abusive to his fiancé, claiming she was cheating on him. The fiancé told officers Ward has been verbally abusive with her in the past, but this was the first time he had gotten physical.
Online court records show Ward made his initial court appearance Tuesday, and had a one-thousand-dollar signature bond set against him. He faces up to a year in prison or up to 11-thousand dollars in fines if found guilty of both charges.
