SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) - Downtown Sheboygan will be the site of an expanded free summer concert series that gets underway Thursday evening. The John Michael Kohler Arts Center begins its Levitt Amp Sheboygan Music Series.
Performing Arts Coordinator Danika Williamson tells WHBL News a grant from Levitt Amp helped to expand the series from last year, featuring a wide variety of musical acts. "We have regional, national, and international groups, maybe something you haven’t seen here in Sheboygan before."
Williamson says each Thursday there will be three acts. The first will begin at 5 p.m. and will feature different community organizations from Sheboygan. A warm-up act will take the stage at 6 p.m., followed by the main attraction at 7 p.m.
Also new is the commitment to involve the entire downtown area. Williamson says the arts center is working with the City of Sheboygan and Sheboygan Squared to get people to visit this part of the city. That will mean family-friendly activities, food trucks, and shops and restaurants staying open later for the expected crowds.
"It's all about connecting the cultural assets and energizing the downtown area," says Williamson.
The concerts will be held at the former Boston Store grounds, weather permitting. But with final preparations for the green space still ongoing, Williamson says this evening’s concert to be held on the Arts Center’s ground. She expect the space will be ready by July 9 at the latest.
