SASD Approves Preliminary Budget

SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) - The Sheboygan Area School District has its basic budget guidelines in place for the next school year.  Every year the Sheboygan Area School District puts a preliminary budget in place in late June so they can finance expenses when the new budget year begins in July.

Thanks to a change in the state budget proposal, the district is expecting no change in state aid next school year rather than a cut of 150-dollars per student.

Business Manager Mark Boehlke says that will prevent the district from making larger cuts to some staff and programs.  "Some of the others were field trip money, it touched some of the special programs like orchestra and foreign language, so a lot of those things we were able to restore."

Also included in the budget is a one-percent average pay raise for teachers based on the district’s pay scale.  Boehlke says that will not include at least 20-percent of teachers.  "The one-percent increase is for everybody to take a step up, so there’s no step for those at the top."

The district’s Board of Education will approve the official 2015-16 budget during their October meeting once official funding numbers are known.
