SHEBOYGAN COUNTY, WI (WHBL) - As the state budget slowly works its way to passage, Sheboygan County will be starting up its 2016 budget process this week.  It’s not passed until November, but County Administrator Adam Payne says it takes several months of work to decide how the county will spend taxpayer dollars next year.

Payne told WHBL’s “Sheboygan’s Morning News” that the budget process involves nearly every county leader.  "The department heads, the county board, the liaison committees, myself, the finance director will all be working together to position the county board for success."

That means holding the line on property taxes, and keeping any possible increase modest.  Payne says early estimates would be to increase the property tax around two percent just to keep services as is.

"It will be to maintain our law enforcement officials, our health and human services programs, our Rocky Knoll operations," says Payne.  "It will be to maintain core programs, as well as make sure we’re doing our best to maintain transportation and other infrastructure needs."

Sheboygan County has been able to work out budgets that have kept property taxes from increasing four of the past eight yeas.
