SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) - What began as a simple playground program in 1915 has grown into the Sheboygan Area School District's Community Recreation Department. Since its humble beginnings, the program has become one of the largest school district-run rec programs in the state with dozens of activities used by thousands.
Community Recreation Coordinator John Koehler told WHBL’s A Closer Look to honor this milestone past staff, volunteers, and school board members will gather at Hoarse Mann Middle School this Saturday from 4 to 7 p.m. "Gonna kind of be an alumni reunion with an open house twist to it," says Koehler. "So we’re hoping that maybe five to seven-hundred people there."
The event will feature food, games, a bounce house, and pictures spanning the department’s centennial. "Everybody can say, you know, this is when I worked for the rec department or this is when I coached for the rec department or this is when I played for the rec department," says Koehler.
