SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) - A local event to properly dispose old medications will be held Saturday as Sheboygan County will be holding its annual Prescription Drug Take Back Day.

Sheboygan Police Captain Jim Veeser says households can drop off a number of items free of charge.  "Prescription narcotics controlled and non-controlled, over-the-counter medications, ointments, patches, non-aerosol sprays, creams, vials, and even pet medications," says Veeser.  Solid, non-liquid medications will be accepted if those who bring it dump the medication into a clear sealable bag.

Items that will not be accepted include illegal drugs, needles/sharps, inhalers, aerosol cans, bio-hazardous materials (anything containing a bodily fluid or blood), personal care products like shampoos and soaps, household hazardous waste like paint and pesticides, and mercury thermometers.

Veeser says the program ensures drugs are disposed of properly for the benefit of the environment.  "It does eventually avoid someone possibly taking these narcotics and having some type of problem associated with that," says Veeser.

Drop off sites include:

-St. Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan from 10 to 2

-Generations in Plymouth from 10 to 2

-Random Lake Fire Department from 10 to noon.
