FOND DU LAC, WI (WHBL) - Congressman Glenn Grothman has chosen which piece of art will represent the state's 6th congressional district at the U.S. Capitol over the next year.
Each year, the Congressional Art Competition is held in most congressional districts and gives a chance to recognize high school art students for their original work. 35 students across east central Wisconsin submitted entries this year. All were on display Monday during an open house event at the American Legion in Fond du Lac.
The winning submission came from Katelyn Lavernz of Fond du Lac High School. The drawing is a self portrait of herself. Grothman congratulated her talent and hard work, and all the other artworks submitted.
Placing second was Emily Vall of Kohler High School. Third went to Emma Kost of Kiel High School. Honorable mention went to Molly Schneider of Fond du Lac High School.
Lavernz's artwork will be on display at the Capitol with all the other congressional district winners across the country.
