SHEBOYGAN COUNTY, WI (WHBL) - Voters went to the polls Tuesday to take part in local elections for a wide variety of city, village, town and school district positions.

The only county-wide election was for a seat on the circuit court system for Branch 4.  With over 18-thousand votes cast, Circuit Court Commissioner Rebecca Persick defeated Sheboygan/Kohler Municipal Judge Catherine Delahunt by over four-thousand votes.  Persick will replace retiring Judge Terrance Bourke later this year.

In the City of Sheboygan, the former alderperson seat held by Kevin Matichek will now be held by Job Hou-Seye.  He defeated write-in challenges from Matt Wierzbach and Ted Bingham in the city's District 4.  The only other competitive race for a Sheboygan alderperson seat was in District 5.  There, incumbent Billy Thiel defeated a challenge from former alderperson Scott Lewandoske by more than 50 votes.

For the Sheboygan Area School District, one new person was elected to the Board of Education.  Mary Beth Martin will join incumbents Barbara Tuszynski and Ryan Burg to be on the board for the next three years.

There were some noted incumbents defeated on Tuesday.  They included:

-Town of Wilson Chairperson David Gartman, who lost to challenger John Ehmann by 130 votes.

-Village of Random Lake President Robert McDermott, who lost to challenger Matthew Brockmeier by just 13 votes.

-City of Sheboygan Falls Alderperson Anne Krauter, who lost to Alan Mayer in District 1 by over 200 votes.

There were also several village trustees in Kohler, Oostburg and Random Lake, and town supervisors in Plymouth and Scott that lost.

Finally, residents in the Elkhart Lake/Glenbeulah School District approved a third referendum in the past ten years.  The  four year-$2.9 million referendum to make building repairs, purchase new equipment, and have money available to cover expected budget deficits was passed by a more than two-to-one margin.
