SHEBOYGAN COUNTY, WI (WHBL) - Sheboygan County is against a provision in Governor Scott Walker’s budget regarding changes to how property assessments are conducted. The budget would require all municipalities with populations under 39-thousand to have assessments handled by the county.
Chairman Roger Te Stroede says there is also a change on how assessments are handled each year. "Part of the requirement is to reassess every year, rather than to use the past year’s numbers and upgrade those numbers rather than have a total reassessment," says Te Stroede.
County Administrator Adam Payne says the change will cost local governments more than the savings the state is projected.
The county has written a letter to Walker and local state legislators asking for a change in the proposal, or if that is not possible, then to remove the item in the budget.
