Sheboygan, WI (WHBL) - University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee student, and Sheboygan native Kathryn Henry is one step closer to living her musical dreams.

“I started music when I was pretty young. I started when I was in fourth grade,” she says.

Kathryn knew at a young age that she would have a voice In music one day. She told her Father Bruce as much.

Bruce Henry says, “She had her first music class (so to speak) and she came home that day, took me by the hand and said -Daddy, I want to be a music teacher when I grow up”

A lot has changed since Kathryn grew up. Her dreams have grown, placing her center stage in a national completion.

Kathryn is a semi-finalist in the National Council Auditions at New York’s Metropolitan Opera. Kathryn advances to the semifinals after winning a regional competition that was held in St. Paul Minnesota in January.

Henry is used to big performances, and has her sights set on a big finish this time, as well.

“ I performed at Carnegie my freshman year, but the semifinals I’ll be singing on the Met stage with a piano. Then if I make it to the finals I’ll have another week where I’m training with Met staff, and then I perform with the orchestra on the Met stage,” Kathryn says.

“ I’m very excited!. It’s still a dream come true for me that I get to go on this far when it was my first time auditioning for it. It’s Pretty great,” says Henry.

The National Semifinals are March 15th.
