SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) - With a new state Legislature taking office Monday, it means a change in several local representatives. The biggest change deals with Devin LeMahieu of Oostburg, who is taking over for Joe Leibham as the state’s ninth district Senator.
LeMahieu says since the election in November, he has been working on the transition with orientations and getting assistance from his father, the retiring Assemblyman Dan LeMahieu, and Leibham. "He’s been very helpful all along. His staff has been very helpful as well. I actually hired one of my four assistants in Madison from his office," says LeMahieu.
LeMahieu says he is still learning, but he's ready to represent the area and focus on the concerns brought up by the constituents in his district. "You know at this point I’m just going to hit the ground running, work hard, and see how I can help out," says LeMahieu.
LeMahieu joins Terry Katsma, Jesse Kremer, and Tyler Vorpagel as new legislators representing Sheboygan County in Madison. There is also a special election set for April to determine who will fill out Glenn Grothman's term in the state Senate as he becomes a Congressman Tuesday.
