SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) - Sheboygan County’s Circuit Court Commissioner wants to keep a tradition going during next spring’s elections. Rebecca Persick announced this week she will run to replace the retiring Judge Terence Bourke, the same person she replaced as commissioner when Bourke became the county’s Branch 4 judge in 2003.

Persick says her 11 years as court commissioner make her a natural fit for being a judge.  "The court commissioner is really as close as you can get to a circuit court judge because I am appointed to assume a lot of them duties," said Persick

Persick plans to get out over the next five months to educate people about her run for the judgeship, but she already has plenty of support.  "I’ve already had a lot of people contacting me, offering to endorse me, and I’ve got a lot of support from the legal community and the law enforcement community," said Persick

Persick says she would not be surprised if the election does become competitive.  The winner of the April election begins serving a six year term next August.
