SHEBOYGAN COUNTY, WI (WHBL) - Sheboygan County was one of the exceptions in this year’s opening weekend for the gun deer season. Preliminary numbers from the D-N-R show 581 deer were registered in Sheboygan County. That was five more than last year’s opening weekend, and one of only 10 counties statewide that had an increase from last year.
Overall, just fewer than 590,000 hunters harvested just over 90,000 deer statewide, down 18-and-a-half percent. D-N-R wildlife managers and wardens say fog and rainy weather Sunday resulted in a “very quiet” day for registration.
As for now, the weekend is the second over the past ten years that no deaths or injuries were reported.
