SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) - The John Michael Kohler Arts Center plans on expanding its M.I.K.E. concert series next year, and is hoping for some help made by the city and the public to make their ideal plans come true.
Deputy Director of Programming Amy Horst says they hope the series will help in the city's growth of the downtown area as an arts hotspot. That ideal outcome would be the demolition of the Boston Store building, which Horst says would be the perfect location for concerts.
They also want to bring in more notable music acts. This could be accomplished through a grant from Levitt Pavilions. Horst says the grants are decided by an online vote, and so far support for their request is strong with votes putting them in the top 5. If they finish in the top 20, they will be considered for one of 10 grants that could get them up to $25,000. Voting for the grant continues through the end of the month.
Horst says even if they don’t get what they want, there is a commitment from the city to grow the series as a new attraction to the downtown area with a wide variety of music.
