SHEBOYGAN COUNTY, WI (WHBL) - A new study shows a very strong need for more higher end family style apartments and condos in Sheboygan County.
Speaking on Sheboygan’s Morning News Thursday, Dane Checolinski of the Sheboygan County Economic Development Corporation said his organization conducted the study after hearing from young professionals and local companies who wanted more of these types of living spaces. They found that of 23 market rate apartment complexes surveyed, the vacancy rate is at 0.4-percent.
Checolinski said new construction for these structures has dropped significantly over the past few years, and it has led to some businesses not being able to hire new employees.
He says his organization will be pushing for new construction, which will include approaching apartment owners who took part in the study and sharing the study's results to possibly spur more complexes.
He adds with local companies planning to expand in the near future, increasing apartment numbers should help grow the area’s economy.
