SHEBOYGAN COUNTY, WI (WHBL) - The Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Department is warning pickup truck owners to watch out for the theft of their vehicle’s catalytic converter.
Lt. Mark Rupnik said the department has received a number of complaints over the past two months of trucks parked in dimly lit areas during hours of darkness having this item stolen. Incidents have taken place from the south county line northward. The most recent happened in the Howards Grove area and the Town of Sheboygan.
Rupnik said catalytic converter thefts are a statewide problem, due to the precious metals inside them, and trucks are targeted due to their higher ground clearance.
So far the department has no leads, and asks anyone with information about these thefts to contact their local law enforcement agency.
