SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) - State Senator Joe Leibham announced on Tuesday that he is hoping to become Congressman Leibham. With more than 100 friends and family looking on, Leibham said he has enjoyed his time in the Senate, but there is work to be done on the federal level. Leibham said he was on the frontline with Governor Scott Walker when they enacted reforms that put the state in a far better position. He said now the federal government needs to be reformed. Leibham said, “Whether it is taxes, regulations, or government intrusions like Obamacare, for the sake of our nation, Washington needs to be reformed. And I want to lead that reform.” Leibham will face at least two Republicans in the August primary. State Senator Glenn Grothman of West Bend and Assemblyman Duey Strobel have already announced their candidacies. Meanwhile, on the Democratic side, Winnebago County Executive Mark Harris tossed his hat into the ring as well on Tuesday - the first to do so for that party's nomination. They are all vying for the seat to be vacated by Sixth District Congessman Tom Petri after 35 years in office.
