SHEBOYGAN FALLS, WI (WHBL) - Sheboygan Falls residents got to hear from the two candidates Monday evening who want to be mayor for the next two years. For the first time in ten years, there is a competitive ballot race as incumbent Randy Meyer faces a challenge from Dan Krueger, a city council alderman for the past three years.
Krueger said he's running because the time has come for residents to have a chance to make a change for mayor. Meyer, who has been mayor for the past ten years, questioned if Krueger has the qualifications to be mayor like he did when he ran for the post in 2004 after serving five years on the city council as an alderman.
The two candidates differed on a number of issues presented during the debate. One area is what they would focus on most if elected in three weeks. Meyer said he would be focused on continued improvements to the Highway 32 corridor and the city's municipal building. Krueger said he would like to improve on the city's planning for future finances and how the mayor communicates with the city council, city workers, and city residents. Both candidates also have differing views on how the municipal building renovation project was approved and how much involvement elected officials should have when new city workers are hired.
Both Krueger and Meyer had similar thoughts regarding some of the issues. These included purchasing land for future park use, providing funds for the return of a railroad line in the city, providing a place for ambulance services to be in the city, and the overall goals for the municipal building renovations.
City residents will have their say when they go to the voting booths on April 1.
