SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (WHBL) - There will be no in-depth study of the Sheboygan Fire Department. The city council Monday night voted to file a request for the study, thus, killing it. Alderman John Belanger, who proposed it, said he was disappointed since he was only hoping to get a cost estimate for such a study. Alderperson Susan Lessard said a cost estimate of 100 to 150-thousand dollars was prohibitive. She also stated that if the council is going to study one department, then they should all be looked at. Alderman Jim Bohren was also opposed, saying the proposed study didn't ask the tough questions. He called it "fluff" and said it was simply a case of "garbage in and garbage out" and wouldn't provide any useful information. The council voted 10 to 5 to place the proposal on file. Meanwhile, a resolution directing city officials to study a system of part-time, paid on-call firefighters to supplement the full-time staff was introduced and referred to committee for further study.
