SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) - The city of Sheboygan is preparing to hire a new fire chief and at least one alderman thinks the salary may be too high.  Under the present salary structure, the minimum salary is 91-thousand dollars and the maximum is 137-thousand.  Alderman Jim Bohren told the Cilty Council Monday night that that’s well above salaries paid in five cities of comparable size that he contacted.  He proposed reviewing the salary package and coming up with a compromise "to be more realistic as to what other like cities are paying."  Alderperson Mary Lynne Donohue, who chairs the Salary and Grievances Committee, said it is up to the Police and Fire Commission to choose a candidate and, when they do, they will negotiate a salary package according to the qualifications of the candidate.  Aldermen then filed Bohren’s proposal.  Fire Chief Jeff Hermann has indicated he will retire at the end of the year.
