SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) - A member of the state’s Department of Public Instruction talked in Sheboygan last evening about the next state budget’s possible impact on public education.  Jeff Pertl provided information regarding what a statewide private voucher program would mean for the Sheboygan district.

Pertl used figures from the current voucher program in Milwaukee to question if it can be expanded as some state legislators want to, noting the program has never been cut back nor has it been capped.  He emphasized that any decision made should get proper discussion and consideration before implemented so that all kids in Wisconsin, whether they take part in the voucher program or stay in public schools, get the best education possible.

Both he and Sheboygan Superintendent Joe Sheehan made a request to attendees to contact their local state legislators and share their view about the voucher program.
