SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) - The Sheboygan City Council Monday night voted to increase the mayor’s contribution to the Wisconsin Retirement System and to keep his contribution to the health insurance at 18 percent. The pension contribution is state-mandated at 7.1 percent, but there was an effort to reduce the insurance contribution to 15 percent - in line with other non-represented employees. But Alderman Jim Bohren led the effort to keep the mayor’s share at 18 percent, saying that may be a future trend for all employees. He said with a large budget deficit looming in 2015, all employees may be asked to contribute more or could face layoffs. Aldermen then voted 9 to 4 to keep it at 18 percent.
