PLYMOUTH, WI (WHBL) - A Sheboygan man is in custody after allegedly leading police and state troopers on a high speed chase.

24-year-old Jared Paarmann faces one count each of fleeing police, hit and run, and recklessly endangering safety.

According to a criminal complaint, a state patrol officer was parked in a cross over on Highway 23 in Plymouth early Sunday morning when he spotted a vehicle going east in the westbound lanes. The trooper started to chase the driver, who took of at speeds over 105 miles per hour. Deputies joined the pursuit, and tried to deploy stop sticks but were unsuccessful.

Police say the vehicle then entered the city limits still going the wrong way on Highway 23, forcing a number of drivers to swerve out of the way to avoid a crash. One vehicle was clipped by the suspect, which deflated a tire on his vehicle. The chase turned south onto North 25th Street and towards Erie Avenue, and then into the construction on Taylor Drive.

A state trooper performed a PIT maneuver on the speeding vehicle, and police boxed the driver in so he couldn't drive away. Officers order the driver out at gunpoint, and found that Paarman was the only person inside. Police say he appeared to be drunk, and that he refused a breathalyzer test at the scene. When asked why he ran from cops, he told officers that he was dumb.

Paarman remains in custody on a $50,000 cash bond and will be back in court next week for a preliminary hearing.
