SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) - A Sheboygan man faces additional charges after trying to run away from the courthouse while in the middle of a hearing.
28 year old Samuel Groth faces one count of escape.
According to the criminal complaint, Groth was in court for a bond hearing on charges of credit card fraud. Judge Rebecca Persick was in the process of raising Groth's bond after he failed to keep up with day reporting. Deputies say Groth got agitated, got up from the defendant's bench and told the courtroom "I'm leaving." The bailiff on duty tried to catch up with Groth, but he fled from the courtroom.
The bailiff radioed for backup and chased Groth down the stairwells and out the front doors of he courthouse, where two other deputies were stopping Groth on the sidewalk outside. Deputies say Groth was still crying and agitated, and told deputies that he wanted to go see his girlfriend.
Groth is in custody on both cases and will be back in court next week for more hearings.
