SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (WHBL) -- Spring is here, and for the Sheboygan County Humane Society it means 'kitten season'.

That's because every spring, the shelter sees a influx of kittens being surrendered for adoption. Director Leah Helms says it can get pretty hectic at the shelter. "Last week we got 20 kittens in under eight weeks." That's on top of the dozens of cats that are already up for adoption at the shelter at this time.

Helms says donations will be appreciated. "We need milk replacer for kittens, we need non-clumping litter, dry kitten and cat food and we prefer Science Diet, Purina One, or the Iams brands." She says the shelter could also use some help finding foster homes for the spring. "We have to wait until those kittens are eight weeks until they're able to go into our adoption program. We want to make sure that they're happy, healthy and thriving."

The Humane Society is also hoping to stem the tide of kittens by offering up spay and neuter services at a reduced price for families that might have a hard time affording that surgery for their cats. Helms also wants to remind people that are looking to adopt a cat to consider an older cat that's been at the shelter for a while. She says that they offer older cats on a voluntary adoption fee.
