SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (WHBL) -- A Sheboygan teen is facing theft charges for a purse snatching incident.
17-year-old Hunter Mlejnek faces a charge of theft from a person.
According to a criminal complaint, a woman reported that a young man had snatched a purse from the front of her mobility scooter Thursday afternoon near the corner of 23rd and Kohler Memorial Drive. A later search of the area found the purse behind a toilet inside a building on the 1300 block of North 25th Street. Surveillance video from inside the store showed a man police identified as Mlejnek entering the store with the purse and then leaving soon after.
Police tracked Mlejnek down and interviewed him. He allegedly confessed to taking the purse and running away with it. He said he felt bad about it and didn't actually have anything to gain in taking the purse. He also allegedly confessed to throwing out a phone that had been inside the purse when he took it.
He's currently free on a $100 cash bond and will be back in court for a preliminary hearing May 18th.
