TOWN OF WILSON, Wis. (WHBL) -- A newly released archeological study has found thousands of Native American artifacts at the home for a proposed new Kohler Golf course.

According to the report obtained by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the research company that examined the site found over 25,000 artifacts dating back more than 2000 years. That included items like pottery shards, stone tools and arrowheads.

Federal officials working on the planning of the property say the discovery could alter the proposed layout of that golf course. Kohler Company officials responded, saying that they believe they can build the course while remaining sensitive to the past cultures that have lived on the property.

Local environmental groups have long opposed the expansion, saying that the new construction is unnecessary and being fueled by political pressure from the Kohler company on state and local officials.
