MADISON, Wis. (WHBL) -- Alliant Energy unveiled a number of solar and renewable energy initiatives yesterday in Madison.
The program is part of a series of upgrades to the company's main offices in Madison. The new facility is showcasing the future of solar power, and Spokesman Scott Reigstad says the research being done in Madison could soon reach other parts of the state. "The climate isn't drastically different in the Sheboygan area, so we could see adoption throughout different areas of our service territory." Other improvements include solar canopies over the office's parking lots and some new benches with solar umbrellas that can be used to charge mobile devices.
Sheboygan County may be better known for the growth of wind farms, but Reigstad says there could be expansion of the solar offerings in the region as well. "Our Madison general office is our first building to have solar panels, but we have operations offices in Sheboygan as well. So other offices will consider this, and also consider if the electric charging stations make sense." He says adding solar panels to the roofs of their offices is a step that Alliant has been taking for some time.
