SHEBOYGAN, Wis (WHBL) -- A Sheboygan man is facing multiple charges after getting caught breaking into a series of parked cars downtown.
39-year-old Shane Simon is charged with four counts of theft, two counts of illegally obtaining a prescription drug and bail jumping.
According to the criminal complaint, police got a call of a suspicious person walking around vehicles parked along North 9th Street and Erie Avenue. When officers arrived, they found Simon laying down inside the driver's seat of a parked convertible. Simon's outfit matched the description provided to police.
When questioned, police say Simon falsely told them the car belonged to his mother and that he was in there to leave a note for her. He then allegedly admitted to be going into vehicles and stealing items. Police say he pointed out the vehicles to officers, who started making calls to the owners to see what had been in the vehicles. A search of Simon's backpack found loose change and a pill bottle containing two different drugs that Simon did not have a prescription for.
Simon is already out on bond in an unrelated obstruction charge from last year and his signature bond has been raised to $5,000. He's due back in court April 25th for a plea hearing in the obstruction case.
Simon's arrest prompted a citywide reminder by the police department to secure their valuables and lock their vehicles.
