Mayor Vandersteen Happy To See Sanders In Sheboygan

SHEBOYGAN, Wis. -- Sheboygan's mayor was pleased to see so many people turn out Friday afternoon for a rally with Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders.

Mayor Mike Vandersteen says his office was contacted earlier this week by the campaign, which was looking for a venue and he was happy to be able to set up the rally at Sheboygan South High School. "It's nice to have one of these presidential candidates recognize Sheboygan and stage a rally like this, so thanks to Mr. Sanders."

Vandersteen says Sheboygan makes a good venue for candidates because people are willing to listen. "I think the people are willing to turn out for a candidate like this. It's great to see him in person, hear him in person, and learn more about their views." He says the last major candidate to make the trip to Sheboygan was John Kerry, and that the city did a great job in welcoming him to the area as well.

Wisconsin's primary is on Tuesday, and Vandersteen says everyone needs to turn up. "Go and vote on Tuesday! It's your responsibility, and we need everybody to go to the polls." Polls open at 8 am.
