ELKHART LAKE, WI (WHBL) - Several volunteer fire departments were on the scene of a house fire in the Elkhart Lake area Wednesday morning. A neighbor reported the fire shortly after 5:30 at the home on County CJ. Firefighters from Elkhart Lake were dispatched and called for assistance from Glenbeulah, Greenbush and Plymouth. There was some lightning going on at the time, but it isn’t known if that’s what caused the fire.
The Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Department reports lightning this morning has hit a transformer in the western part of the county and there have been some alarms going off. There was also a report of branches down on wires and some arching. Also a report of a tree blocking a road near Elkhart Lake.
Also this morning, some roads may be getting slippery. A car left southbound I-43 about 5:30 at Rowe Road north of Sheboygan and hit a pillar in the overpass and then ended up in the median. The female driver may have suffered minor injuries. There was also a report of a car off the road on Highway 23. WHBL received a call from one listener who said roads in the Elkhart Lake area were icing over and trees and mailboxes were getting a pretty thick coating. He said it appeared the area being hit was County A and areas to the north.
