GREEN BAY, Wis, (WHBL) -- A Sheboygan man convicted of numerous felonies for terrorizing and torturing his family has died in prison.
A spokesperson for the State Department of Corrections confirmed that 43-year-old Lao Jin died at the Green Bay Correctional Institution on March 16th. Tristan Cook says the death is still under investigation at this time and that the cause of death and any other details are not being released until the investigation is complete.
Judge Timothy Van Akkeren sentenced Jin to 30 years in prison and 28 years on extended supervision in December of 2013. He was convicted of numerous charges, including child abuse, mental harm to a child, strangulation and suffocation, and recklessly endangering safety.
His family testified in court about the physical, mental, and sexual abuse they endured, including being hurt with a shock collar, being forced to eat dust, being choked or cut with knives, and threats to end their lives.
Jin eventually pleaded no contest to 14 charges in the case in a plea deal with prosecutors.
