SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (WHBL) -- An effort to get young professionals into the Sheboygan area continues, and the Chamber says they're seeing results.
The program is called Someplace Better, and is an effort to encourage young people start their careers and lives in Sheboygan County. Chamber of Commerce community relations director Bill Marklein says the main focus has been the Someplacebetter.org website, and it's been effective so far. "Definitely received good feedback. We're really starting the initial phase of the marketing campaign, billboards, getting it out there in front of young professionals that it's there for their use."
One major hurdle is finding homes for those incoming workers, and Sheboygan is working to get more apartments and homes in place to support the jobs. "We have the jobs, we just need to have the infrastructure for them to live here." Those jobs include a hiring blitz at Acuity and an incoming 200 jobs for Kohler. Marklein says a number of major housing developments are in construction. "We have projects in place right now where I think, even in 2017, you'll see houses coming up. So that number should jump, and there's a lot of things in the works to continue that as well, so it looks promising."
