SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) - There are now two judge seats that Governor Scott Walker will have to fill in Sheboygan County’s Circuit Court system.
On Thursday the governor’s office announced Branch Five Judge James Bolgert will resign effective at the end of July. Bolgert has been the Branch Five Judge since he was first elected to the seat in 1994 and has been re-elected since.
His retirement comes at a time when a search for a new judge for the court’s Branch Two seat has been going on for over four months after then-Judge Timothy Van Akkeren resigned in early January. Since then, reserve judges have been presiding over cases in that court branch.
The governor’s office says applications for both seats can be submitted through March 24, and there is no timeline when replacements will be appointed.
Whomever is appointed will have the option to run for a full six year term in April of next year.
