SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) - The city of Sheboygan now has its third mayor in the past 14 months. Mike Vandersteen is the new mayor after defeating incumbent Terry Van Akkeren 4,059 to 3,862 in Tuesday's election. Vandersteen said, "Terry ran a great race and I was happy to just edge him out." Van Akkeren had defeated Bob Ryan in the February 2012 recall election and said he was proud of the job he has done in bringing some stability to the office during his tenure. Vandersteen takes over on April 16th when the council begins its new term.
