SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (WHBL) -- Sheboygan City Hall would keep its iconic look while getting a complete internal remodel under a recommendation to the Committee of the Whole.

The city's Building Use Committee heard a presentation from Bray Architects Wednesday night over their possible options for a new City Hall, and decided to pay for a remodel of the existing building at a cost of around $11 million. City alderman John Belanger says he'd like to see the building layout changed to have all of the basic services on the first floor. "What we'd like to have is that one stop shop for all the services at city hall, where you can go and get a dog license, you can pay a parking ticket, you can pay building permits, all in one location."

One issue would be performing the remodel without damaging the iconic structure of the facility. Belanger says the project can accomplish that through careful work. "What needs to be done is tuckpointing, windows need to be replaced, it needs a new roof, it needs a new HVAC system. Things like that would not deter from the historical nature of preserving that building."

Several other options were on the table including moving City Hall to a new location and building a new facility. A number of locations had been discussed at past meetings including 10th and Wisconsin and a location near Mead Public Library. Officials from Bray had priced those options at around $7 million.

The Committee of the Whole will hear the recommendations at their next meeting March 14th.
