SHEBOYGAN COUNTY, WI (WHBL) - Today is Primary Election day in Wisconsin, as voters will go to the polls to either narrow the field of candidates running for spring general elections, or decide the fate of school referendums.
The only statewide primary taking place is to narrow the field of candidates running for a seat on the State Supreme Court from three to two. Those judges running for the two spots on the general ballot include Justice Rebecca Bradley, Appeals Judge JoAnne Kloppenburg, and Milwaukee County Circuit Court Judge Joe Donald.
For some communities in the WHBL listening area, there are primaries on the ballot.
These include two school districts with the need to narrow the number of candidates on the general election ballot in seven weeks.
The Ozaukee School District will select two of the three following candidates for a seat on their Board of Education: Patty Barrie, Albert Klinter, and Bob Rathsack.
The Kiel School District will narrow its Board of Education candidates from five to four. They include incumbents Dan Dietrich and Mike Joas, along with challengers Randall Bonde, Dan Karls, and Marcus Ladd.
There is also a primary to narrow the candidate field for supervisors in the Town of Holland from five to four. They include incumbent Stanley Lammers, along with challengers Dick Gust, Douglas Hamilton, Reid Rathjen, and Nathan Voskuil.
There is also one school district with a referendum on the ballot in our area. The Oostburg School District is asking residents if they will support over nine million dollars for improvements and a new wing at the elementary school.
Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., and a reminder that a photo ID is needed to cast a ballot.
