SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) - A Green Bay woman will spend ten days in the local jail after taking expensive perfume from the Target store in Kohler.
Judge Angela Sutkiewicz sentenced 27 year old Priscilla Mercado this week to the jail time, plus two years probation and a requirement never to have contact with this store location. The plea deal was reached after Mercado agreed to plead no contest to one count of retail theft as a party to the crime. In return, a second charge was dismissed.
The criminal complaint against her stated Kohler Police were called to the store to investigate two thefts that occurred in late August. Surveillance video determined Mercado assisted Vanessa Guzman of Sheboygan with taking over two-thousand dollars worth of perfume, with Guzman putting the items in her purse and then placing the purse in a shopping cart pushed by Mercado.
When interviewed, Mercado told investigators that she did not stop after a store alarm was activated when she tried to leave the store with the perfume, saying alarms always go off when she walks past them.
As for Guzman, court records show she has a court date for her retail theft charges next week.
