TOWN OF HOLLAND, WI (WHBL) - Two people are dead after a two vehicle accident on I-43 south of Oostburg Wednesday evening.
The Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Department says they received several 911 calls about the accident around 5:30 p.m. near mile marker 115.
The department’s preliminary investigation has determined a vehicle driven by an 85-year-old male was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of traffic. That caused a southbound vehicle, driven by a 35-year-old male, to strike the northbound vehicle. Both men were declared dead at the scene, and were the only ones involved in the accident.
Traffic on I-43 was hampered due to the accident for around three hours. Gates at the interstate’s southbound access from County Road AA were closed and traffic was rerouted as emergency responders were at the scene to investigate and clean up.
Agencies that responded to the scene included the sheriff’s department, Kohler Police, Cedar Grove first responders, Oostburg Ambulance, Orange Cross Ambulance, Cedar Grove Fire Department and Oostburg Fire Department.
The sheriff’s department says more information may be released on Thursday, as they notify the family of the deceased first.
